Overview

The Hydraulic Laboratory of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering in Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) has been constructed in an area of 32×12 Square meters with a height of 8.5 m. The water rotation system in this lab is in the form of an underground Channel that acts as a water reservoir and flows through pumps with different capacities in flumes and models. Underground Channels have been constructed throughout the laboratory and thus allow water to be drained from all locations. The width of the Channels is one meter and their depths up to 1.8 meters and in total, about 80 cubic meters of water can be stored inside these Channels. The bottom of the Channels is sloping to an overflow and wells to drain in emergencies or to be washed in emergencies.
Professors in response to the need for small and large civil industrial projects are invited to collaborate on various hydraulic and fluid mechanics experiments in various laboratory areas and workshop experiments, demonstrating the activity of this laboratory.

A summary of the major experimental facilities is given below

Different parts of the laboratory

The hydraulic laboratory consists of two parts

A. Undergraduate
The undergraduate course in Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics for students to practice and deal with theoretical issues in the following tests.
  1. Specific 5-meter channel for tests such as hydraulic jump test, wide-flow overflow, uniform flow, rough bed, etc.
  2. Testing of triangular and rectangular overflows
  3. Testing the orifice and launch jet
  4. Motion size test
  5. Reynolds number test
  6. Friction test along pipe line
  7. Wind tunnel device (pressure distribution on objects of different shapes)
B. Graduate
To carry out research projects and graduate studies. This section consists of large flumes that are modeled by placing different types of flow mechanism hydraulic structures, scour mechanism and sediment movement.
The lab also offers hydraulic related research and research projects in the form of master's and doctoral dissertations.
C. the Hydraulic Laboratory is fully prepared to conduct research on the physical models of hydraulic and river structures and to perform physical model experiments to finalize designs for such structures and to provide advice to the water industry.
